Facial and Fat Transfer
the area to be treated is numbed with a local anesthetic. A small liposuction cannula is then inserted through small puncture holes beneath the chin and behind the earlobe. The excess fat is then suctioned out and the patient then wears a compression neck garment for 4 days. They can return to work or normal activities on the 5th day. In order to minimise the chance of a bruise we recommend arnica for 48 hours prior and 24 hours after the procedure. After sedation, the area to be treated is numbed with a local anesthetic. Fat Transfer refers to adding fat to areas from where it has been lost. As we age, the mid face tends to drop, resulting in a sunken appearance beneath the eye and a “tired look”. This is compounded by the loss of fat from the cheeks which also occurs with time. Fat Transfer is an excellent way of reversing these changes, resulting in a more youthful, fresher appearance. How long does a Fat Transfer last?
After the initial Fat Transfer, usually about half the fat survives and the rest dissolves. Accordingly, it is necessary to repeat the procedure in 2 to 3 months. Usually, the result should then last several years although occasionally a 3rd treatment may be necessary in the first 12 months.
Neck Lift
Before the procedure, a sedative is given so that the patient feels very relaxed. Local anaesthetic is then injected to numb the area. This anaesthetic also helps lift the skin from the underlying tissue and shrink the blood vessels so that the surgery is almost bloodless. An incision runs behind the ear and along the hairline behind the ear. Sometimes the incision may curve around to the front of the lower ear and sometimes another small incision is made beneath the chin.
The underlying tissue is then tightened and carefully repaired whilst any excess skin is removed. A compression bandage is then worn for 3 days. After 3 days, patients can remove the bandage, wash their hair and apply antibiotic ointment. Sutures are removed after 7 days and most patients are able to return to work after 7-10 days.
